At the fork of the road" - Horvat Haluqim, A Strategic Junction

Abstract

The area around Horvat Haluqim contains evidence of road markers of the Early Bronze Age, a fortress of the early first millennium BCE and a Roman fort of the late second century CE. These installations attest to the position of the site at a strategic point along important desert roads in the Negev Highlands in ancient times, as well in recent times (the Darb Es-Sultan), and even at present (Highway 40).

This paper will present these installations in their their geo-historical context from the dawn of civilization until present times.
